CASE STUDIES
THE MASCERA
A brand identity and sustainable packaging concept for a clean-beauty mascara.
The MascEra is a concept mascara created for a project focused on sustainable packaging. The goal was to design product packaging that uses little to no plastic. As someone who wears makeup almost every day, I gravitated towards the beauty industry. After researching mascara, its ingredients, and packaging, I developed a mascara brand concept called The MascEra.
The retail packaging is a recycled cardboard tube with a lid and uses no plastic or glue. The product information will be printed onto the cardboard using water based ink that is non-toxic and biodegradable.
The tube is reusable and made of aluminum. It acts as a case that the mascara product will be inserted into. Also reusable, the wand is made of natural coconut fibers and can be cleaned and dried for reuse.
The mascara product will come in a recycled plastic tubular insert that clicks into the aluminum case and is the only part of the mascara that will need to be disposed of and replaced.
PRODUCT PROTOTYPE
SMARTNAP
A brand identity and UI/UX mockup for a mobile phone app.
SmartNap is a mobile app designed to help students study. Research shows that taking a nap instead of cramming helps students better retain information over time.
The app concept allows the user to input and organize their classes and course materials. When a student needs a break, all they have to do is set the timer and take a nap. Once the timer goes off, the student is given a quiz to see how well they remembered what they just studied.
